The Ford Performance Racing (FPR) Falcons of Mark Winterbottom and Steve Richards appear to be on track for a solid showing this weekend after clinching second and fourth places respectively in today's opening practice sessions.
While their best times were achieved on fresh Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 'control' tyres, both drivers carried some renewed pace while on older rubber.
"Everything seems to be going to plan," Orrcon Steel racer Mark Winterbottom said.
"I only did a lap on fresh tyres but the car felt pretty strong on the older stuff which is basically a reflection of the race pace I can expect," he added.
"It's only Friday so you never get too excited but the car definitely feels better ... the benefits of our two days testing I think are starting to come through which is promising."
Steve Richards also made a welcome return to the pointy end of the field, with a time just two-tenths of a second of today's fastest river Jamie Whincup.
"Yeah the car feels pretty good," a circumspect Richards said.
"As Frosty said it's only Friday but there's definitely an improvement in the car's balance ... we're probably still chasing a bit of straight-line speed but overall we've got a strong package to work with for qualifying tomorrow," he added.
The 2010 Skycity Triple Crown at Hidden Valley continues tomorrow with qualifying and the top-ten shoot out.
