After a promising afternoon of practice, Ford Performance Racing (FPR) are on track for another strong showing at the Townsville 400 this weekend.
FPR racers Steve Richards and Mark Winterbottom finished the fourth and final session this afternoon in seventh and 11th places respectively, and both were confident that there is more speed to be found in the "blue duo's" Falcons.
"That was one of the better starts to a weekend I've had in a while," Dunlop Super Dealer FPR pilot Richo said, who also managed to be the fastest Ford driver today.
"The car is feeling a lot better than it did last year ... we're handling the kerbs a lot better which is essential to a good lap around here," he added.
"I had a strong finish in Darwin a few weeks back so I'm feeling confident we can maintain a competitive pace this weekend and shoot for another top ten finish ... there's still a few tweaks we can do overnight which will hopefully grant us another tenth or two so we'll just have to wait and see but for the moment I'm in a pretty comfortable place."
Richo's FPR teammate Mark Winterbottom also showed promise this afternoon before a heavy-handed brush with a curb curtailed any further gains in this afternoon's session.
"Things were feeling pretty good ... but I hit a kerb a bit too hard and it's knocked the rear-right suspension out of kilter which pretty much ended my chances of going any better than 11th this afternoon," Frosty said.
"Like Richo there's still a few things we have to iron out before qualifying tomorrow but we're definitely on the right track to another good weekend."
Qualifying for the Townsville 400 starts tomorrow 10.50am local time.
