Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom has become the first V8 Supercar driver to sample the all-new Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas after spending two days in the city exploring both the new race track and all the best the Texas state capital has to offer.
Frosty is in the United States for a Disney commitment later this week, but headed to the soon-to-be-completed venue to see for himself the Formula 1-standard circuit that will host the V8 Supercars Championship next year.
"The circuit's topography, including the dramatic changes in elevation, will make for some really fun racing and a great show for fans," Winterbottom said.
"While I didn't get to drive the full circuit, the sequence of turns I did sample gave me goose bumps, and I can't wait to come back and take a lap around the finished racecourse. Circuit of The Americas will be a welcome addition to our V8 Supercar line-up in 2013."
Winterbottom drove a Ford Mustang on the completed sections of the circuit, playing chauffeur to a few eager journalists in the latest model Mustang GT.
The factory Ford driver sampled the opening half of the circuit and also inspected the pit buildings, main straight and the uphill turn one complex which is the visual highlight of the new venue.
Aside from his race track duties he visited numerous Austin institutions including the Capitol Building, a number of cowboy boot and hat shops and the unique Wild Bubba’s burger shop near the circuit which serves among other things Buffalo burgers and fried Coyote tails.
Winterbottom now heads to Los Angeles for Disney promotional work before returning to Australia ahead of next week’s Townsville V8 Superca event.
