Ford Performance Racing's young gun Chaz Mostert has regained the Dunlop Series lead after a thrilling finish in the second and final race of the development series event at Bathurst.
Mostert started second and for the majority of the entire 14-lap race harassed rival Nick Percat.
He briefly lead after a brave pass into The Chase, only for Percat to slide by at the final turn.
The pair then ran in close formation for much of the race until Mostert tagged the wall at the top of the mountain a few laps from home.
Mostert briefly backed off to ensure the car was undamaged before making a final lap push where he fell a mere 0.12s short of victory.
Despite missing the race win he has regained the lead and now heads Scott McLaughlin by 20 points.
Chaz Mostert – #56 FPR Ford:
"I wanted to try and get near the points lead this weekend so to come away with the outright lead in the championship is a great result for me and the team. I am really happy with the overall performance though I obviously would've liked to win today as we had great pace coming down the mountain. We head to Winton in the ideal position but as we've seen several times the points table can change quickly so we 'll keep working hard."
DUNLOP SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS AFTER BATHURST:
1 Chaz Mostert - 1278 points
2 Scott McLaughlin - 1258
3 Nick Percat - 1154
