25 | 08 | 2013 - FROSTY BREAKS HOME TRACK HOODOO

Ford Pepsi Max Crew?s Mark Winterbottom has finally broken his Winton duck by winning the first of today?s two races. The win, along with other results for he and team-mate Will Davison sees the championship points gap close significantly heading into the Endurance Cup.

Will is third, 55 points off the lead while Mark is 70 back in fourth.

Race 26
Mark made a rapid start and vaulted from the second row into the lead by turn one as a multi-car incident behind brought out the safety car.

On the restart he streaked to a two-second lead which he held until the mid-point when chief pursuer Jason Bright closed in to under half-a-second.

Despite consistent pressure he held on to claim his first ever V8 Supercars win at the team?s home track and FPR?s first success since 2006 which ironically was won by Bright.

Will ran a sedate race in seventh position, holding his ground comfortably to secure a solid points haul.

Race 27
Will took his turn at the front and another strong FPR start had him third at the opening bend and ran in the lead pack throughout the race only for a late-race safety car to force him out of the podium places.

A number of cars pitted for fresher rubber and he was swamped in the closing laps and had to settle for sixth.

Mark was unable to repeat his earlier heroics after qualifying 19th. He narrowly avoided a turn one incident but lost ground in the process.

From there he battled at the tail of the field, unable to pass on the twisty layout. Late in the race he managed to gain a number of places to finish 17th despite being nearly run off track following a contact with Rick Kelly.

?It was awesome to come out of the weekend 70 points down in the championship as it is certainly game-on now. The first race was both a relief as well as being important for our points. I?ve tried to win here for years so it was nice to get one in front of our loyal Ford fans. The qualifying for the second race seriously hurt me but I am lucky to finish as there was actually quite a bit of damage done to the car after the contact with Rick (Kelly). All-in-all, to go into the enduros where we are, it shows just how good this championship is getting.?

Will Davison - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford:

Race 27 Result: 6th
?Overall it has been a solid weekend points-wise but the car has frustrated me this weekend as I haven?t quite been able to get it to do what I wanted. We really should?ve tuned the car more in between today?s two races as we weren?t quite there in the last race. We were probably on for third but other people took a tyre strategy gamble and it paid off for them. I am looking forward to the endurance part of the season, we head there well within striking distance and now we need to work hard to get everything ready for the big races.?

Tim Edwards ? FPR Team Principal:
?It was great to finally get the Winton win monkey off our back. Mark has been trying to win here since he joined the team eight years ago so it was not only a relief but also further reduced our points deficit. The second race didn?t have the final result we were aiming for and I am annoyed we gave up places in the closing laps. Overall it has been a positive weekend for the championship so we head into Sandown in a much better position overall than when we arrived here.?
