04 | 04 | 2014 - WEATHER RULES WINTON
Ford Pepsi Max Crew completed a rain-affected day of practice without incident though with minimal beneficial running at Winton in northern Victoria.
The team spent most of the first session bedding brakes on a drying track before heavy rain saw Frosty and Chaz not bother to head out in practice two.
Both were on track for the final session and while the weather cleared a number of red flags and circumstances on track due to recent resealing work made it hard to put a competitive lap time together in the cool conditions.
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max FPR Ford: 19th
?It was a tricky day with all the silicon on the track. In the final session I put good rubber on, headed out, the red flag came out and we had to start again on cold tyres. Then when we got going we had no tyre temperature and I just couldn?t get a run in. We didn?t use new tyres as the surface was chewing them up. I was out of sequence and didn?t get enough laps on tyres with any temperature which made it hard and led to a few mistakes. We will have new tyres tomorrow so we?ll see where we end up.?
Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford: 14th
?My Pepsi Max Ford doesn?t feel too bad but it is hard to sort out the outright pace at the moment. At the end of final practice people were doing two-lap flyers but then falling off track and getting in the way which made things difficult. I think we will be okay but we will just have to do the job as soon as we get to qualifying.?
Tim Edwards ? Team Principal:
?There isn?t much to say about today. The weather and track conditions weren?t conducive to getting much meaningful running so that means we head into tomorrow with a bit of guess work but given it is our test track we have plenty of data to call on.?
DUNLOP SERIES ? PRACTICE
Rising star Cameron Waters made the ideal start to his second event with the factory team by comfortably topping both practice sessions in the Dunlop Series. He made the most of tricky conditions to finish ahead of a bevy of highly-experienced rivals.
Cameron Waters - #56 ENZED FPR Ford
"Today could not have gone any better. To top both practice sessions is a perfect start and I am feeling very confident about the rest of the weekend. We made very few changes to the car and although we didn't do a huge amount of laps we got through our program as we needed to. I'm looking forward to getting out there again tomorrow and making amends for the last race in Adelaide."
