Ford Pepsi Max Crew pair Mark Winterbottom and Steve Owen are happy with how they’ve started in the first Endurance Cup sessions of the season at Sandown, Melbourne’s historic suburban racetrack.
Frosty drove the majority of the first session and was battling for top spot before becoming the only regular to elect to give additional seat time to his co-driver.
Steve rounded out the session before completing the next two 40-minute sessions working on race set-up for Sunday’s 500km enduro.
Their team-mates Chaz and Paul Morris worked through the normal set-up developments expected on Friday with Paul finding a gain late in the final session.
Mark Winterbottom & Steve Owen - #5 Pepsi Max FPR Ford: 15th (combined times)
Owen: “I was pretty happy this morning. It is good to roll out of the truck and have things go so well. The rest of the day I was a fan and just watched Steve drive. He has the same feedback as mine so we’ve used the day as a good testing day, not just him logging laps. We’ll get a sweat up tomorrow, get down to business and see where we’re really at.”
Chaz Mostert & Paul Morris - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford: 20th (combined times)
Mostert: “The Pepsi Max Ford didn’t feel too bad this morning and Paul has spent the afternoon working away at feeling good in the car and he got there by the end which is encouraging. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow in qualifying as we have the usual session but also two qualifying races so there’s a long way to go. I think we’re reasonably quick but we need to work on a few things and tidy a few areas so we can be more confident going into tomorrow.”
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“It was a fairly routine Friday today. We didn’t experience any major dramas but we certainly have a few things to work on and develop so it will be the usual busy night. Mark and Chaz both rolled out pretty well so that’s a positive and (stable-mate) Dean (Canto) has been strong in his co-driver sessions despite not being entirely with things. Qualifying is important tomorrow but it is all about getting things right on Sunday.”
