Ford Pepsi Max Crew’s Mark Winterbottom has qualified for Bathurst’s famed Top 10 Shootout after a drama-filled qualifying session.

Frosty backed up his earlier lap record-setting pace to finish fourth after a measured session where he took no risks as others crashed out.

Earlier in the day he became the first driver to set a lap in the 2m05s bracket to highlight the speed being generated by the new track surface.

Chaz struggled to get the pace he has shown all weekend after tagging the wall early upset the handling of his Pepsi Max Crew Ford.

Despite being disappointed with 14th he was happy to finish the session with an undamaged car.

Mark Winterbottom & Steve Owen - #5 Pepsi Max FPR Ford: 4th
Winterbottom:
“My Pepsi Max Crew Ford was really good on the first outing. We sat for a long time after that initial lap and conditions changed a bit. At the end I was trying to do a good lap but if you crash you’re out of the shootout. Tomorrow is when you hang it all out and we are in a good position to have a crack tomorrow. We have a strong package and there were some quick times but if we can tidy things up we’ll be in line for a shot at pole. The car is clean and fast and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”

Chaz Mostert & Paul Morris - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford: 14th
Mostert:
“I wanted to get into the shootout which would’ve been special but unfortunately I tagged the fence in the first outing. That’s tweaked something under the car and from then the car was a bit uncoupled and hard to drive. I couldn’t get the pace out of it and wasn’t quick where I have been all day. We have a straight car and there are a lot of laps. We’re starting mid-pack and see what we can do. We’ll cruise along and see where we end up.”

Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“A little bit of a mixed bag today. Our aim was to get all four cars in the shootout and each car had the pace across the day, but we could only manage two. That said, Mark is well-placed for a shot at pole and to be the first driver into the 2m05s bracket will be something he’ll always remember. Jack was very strong and will be as good a chance as any driver at pole. Chaz battled a bit but he’s keeping it all in check though there is a lot of work to do on Dave’s car after his off. This place can bite hard and it did today.”
