UP AND DOWN AT THE ISLAND

16 | 11 | 2014 - UP AND DOWN AT THE ISLAND

Ford Pepsi Max Crew gained their second podium in two days with Mark Winterbottom finishing third in Race 35.

In what was an up-and-down weekend for the team, Winterbottom was able to hold onto his third place start and extend his lead over Craig Lowndes, sitting second in the championship.

Chaz Mostert was hurt early in the race, being forced to pit three times in order to add enough fuel to get to race end. Despite the set-back Mostert was able to make up ground and finish 17th overall.

The focus for all drivers now shifts to Homebush where the team hopes to continue its impressive track record.

Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max FPR Ford
Qualifying: 3rd
Race: 3rd
“It was the best we could do. On the day, when third was as good as we could get it feels like a mini victory when you can get the most out of it and you drove it to the limits and stuff like that. The other two guys (Scott McLaughlin and Garth Tander) were really quick and on that restart you think you have half a chance. The Volvo was very hard to tow so you almost get no tow and I could feel Whincup pulling me back down the straight so I had to try and fight my position but after that it was trying to hold of Jamie and thankfully we did. It’s a good result for the guys because it’s been tough no doubt and we’ll try and fight for second but at the end of the day you want to win and after that goes you get disappointed but we can probably annoy Triple 8 if we can get in the middle of them.”

Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford:
Qualifying: 10th
Race: 17th
“It wasn’t a great day. I am not quite sure what happened to bring me back in for another splash of fuel. Everybody had to double-stack under the safety car and of course you’ll always lose some spots if you’re the one queuing, but with my extra stop it was just never going to be my day. We are still in a good position to claim fifth but Homebush is really hard to predict so we will have to just put our heads together and see what we can come up with.”

Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“Great to finish the weekend with another podium. Obviously it was a more challenging day for the rest of the team but now the focus shifts to Homebush and the final event of the series where we have a very good track record.”
