Pepsi Max Crew’s Chaz Mostert headed the field in the third-and-final practice session in Townsville where the team’s FG X Falcons spent much of the day in the top section of the timesheets.
Chaz chose not to use his soft rubber but still set the pace in the final session, very happy with his overall car balance and handling.
Series leader Frosty led the day’s opening session and was close behind his team-mate at day’s end.
He changed his set-up across the day and is pleased with the overall direction despite not being as quick on the soft compound tyre as he would like.
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 4th – 1m13.37s
“We were really strong at the start of the session and we then put softs on, which were supposed to be good, it all changed which made it harder. If we can tune the areas we are deficient and improve the car in a few small areas we will be okay. Things are pretty positive but we’ll know more after qualifying tomorrow.”
Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 1st – 1m13.25s
“We came out of the gate pretty well. We made some large changes throughout the sessions and every change we made felt better and better. We didn’t qualify well here last year so hopefully we can do that and keep the points momentum going. Anytime you finish in the top five you get a good haul of points and that is the base aim for the event.”
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“Today was important for us as it was our first chance to evaluate the FG X on a true street circuit since we’ve gained a solid bank of information on it since the opening event in Adelaide. While tyre quality and fuel loads play a part in today’s outcomes we are all fairly pleased with how things progressed and with how our car reacted to the changes we made.”
DUNLOP SERIES – PRACTICE
Cameron Waters again topped the Dunlop Series sessions coming out on top in the first session by a narrow margin. The second session saw the same result but with a greater margin. Waters’ pace and gap to the field in the second session was critical as most runners used their best tyres for qualifying simulation runs.
