Prodrive Racing (Australia)'s Chaz Mostert believes Ipswich could produce a strong showing for the #6 Ford Falcon FG X at the half-way point of the season as the team returns to Queensland Raceway.
The track that helped to produce his first ever V8 Supercars win back in 2013 could be the key to helping the Queensland local take back the top-step.
Off the back of his clean sweep of the Townsville 400 Mark Winterbottom remains wary of the challenges Queensland Raceway has presented previous years, yet is confident of another strong result.
Co-drivers Steve Owen and Cameron Waters will participate in Friday's 30 minute practice session; the first of two occurring at Queensland Raceway and Sydney Motorsport Park ahead of the Pirtek Enduro Cup.
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford:
"I think Ipswich will be good for us. It's been a round that has been a little bit hard in the past but it'll be good to try out the new car there and see what it does. Last year was a big turn-around in the championship in a bad way for us so we need to make sure we back up our good results. Coming off Townsville with two wins and the results we've had so far this season I'm pretty keen to get back in the car so hopefully it's good for us. We're going into enemy territory up in Queensland to their home track and test track so we'll see how we go. It's going to be tough but I think we've got a car that's capable of getting a good result if everything goes well."
Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford:
"Ipswich has been a pretty good hunting ground for me in years gone by. I had my first ever V8 Supercars race win there and a couple of podiums there last year as well so I'm looking forward to going back. It's a bit of a home track for me, being a Queensland boy, so fingers crossed we can get it lickety-split out of the gate and really push hard for some results and keep pushing in the championship to try and get our cars to 1,2,3 but for now we'll just look forward to getting to Ipswich. The FG X hasn't debuted there yet so it'll be another track to tick off the list and we'll see how we roll out."
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
"Ipswich has produced varied results for each of the drivers over the years so they're all excited to get the FG X to the track and see if it makes a difference for them. On paper we have a fair idea of how the cars should perform but the real test will be when we get on track."
DUNLOP SERIES PREVIEW
Prodrive Racing (Australia)'s Cameron Waters will perform double duties at the upcoming Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint as he prepares to participate in Friday's co-driver only practice session in the #6 Ford Falcon FG X. While hoping to continue his strong form, Waters will be looking for a no-mistakes run to further extend his championship lead over Paul Dumbrell with only three Dunlop Series rounds to go.
Cameron Waters - #5 ENZED PRA Ford:
"I'm excited to be back in the car this weekend. Last year we had pretty good pace there and got on pole but the race didn't really go to plan. We have a really good race car so I'm excited to get back there and hopefully we can stay up the front and get a few more points and that should set us up going into Bathurst and Homebush. The co-driver practice session on the Friday will be really good. I get to drive Chaz's car for the first practice session when all of the co-drivers are in the car. It'll be great to get back in Chaz's car and seeing what they've done with it at the last few rounds."
