The Pepsi Max Crew's Chaz Mostert has continued his front-running form in the final practice session on Friday at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint after a consistent performance across the day.
After finishing fifth on the time sheets in session one, strapping on the soft tyres was beneficial for the Queensland local, however felt the car was stable on both compounds.
Mark Winterbottom is looking to improve after finishing ninth and 16th in the first and second sessions, however is confident that the team can re-group to put together a good car for tomorrow's practice session.
Pepsi Max Crew co-drivers Steve Owen and Cameron Waters both participated in today's co-driver only practice session, with both finishing inside the top five.
Seasoned co-driver Steve Owen made the most of the car, finishing third ahead of Waters in fifth.
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 17th – 1m10.47s
“We had a hard day today. The track changed quite a bit across the day. It's a difficult track because it has two components, high speed and low speed, so we chased that a bit but we'll tune her up tonight, look at some data and stuff and tomorrow we have another practice so we'll see what we learnt, see what we didn't. Today is always a day that you have to try things and if you're p1 now and you can't improve it you sort of scratch your head. If you've got room to improve you can put all of your heads together and sort it out so we’ll be right."
Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 1st – 1m09.48s
“Everything is just gelling really nice at the moment but it's only practice. No one knows what everyone is on in terms of tyres and we had pretty good stuff, there's no lying about that so we'll see how we roll out tomorrow. This track is probably one of the hardest to read and when the track temp goes up the times go away but our car is doing pretty well over both compounds so we'll just keep focusing on ourselves, keep trying to tune it up and make it as quick as we can and hopefully stay at the pointy end."
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“Ipswich is a funny place to go racing. The track is pretty varied in terms of speed and then when you add track temperature changes to the equation it can throw you out. It was good to see Chaz top the times. Mark didn't get a long run on the soft tyre and was a bit behind on pace on the hards as well so we'll have a look at that overnight. Overall we're fairly happy but there's room to improve and we’ll make the most of that."
DUNLOP SERIES – PRACTICE
Cameron Waters has taken a clean-sweep of the Dunlop Series practice sessions, setting the fastest time of the day in the final session with a 1:10:69. Waters was able to fend off Chris Pither in the first session, while pushing further out in the times to finish six-tenths ahead of Jack LeBrocq in the second session. Waters will be without engineer David Paterson this weekend, whose role will be filled by chief engineer Nathaniel Osborne.
Cameron Waters - #5 ENZED PRA Ford: 1st
"Patto (David Paterson) isn't here this weekend so I'm working out a new relationship with Ozzie (Nathaniel Osborne) which is going really well so far. We rolled out in session one and the car was really good so we've kind of just built on that. Practice two we worked more on the race car to make sure the car is quick enough for the races and put some new tyres on and it was six tenths clear of everyone. I'm really happy with today and I was happy in Chaz's car as well. I think I was on older tyres in that car but I still got fifth quickest. It was good to get some miles in that car."
