The Pepsi Max Crew's co-drivers have stolen the show in practice at the Sandown 500, finishing within the top three in each of today's 30-minute co-driver practice sessions.
Cameron Waters was the standout in session two, setting the fastest time for the session and being the only driver to dip below 1:10 second mark.
Steve Owen was able to also make it into the top three despite not being completely happy with the car in the second session before finishing with the fastest time in the final session.
Main drivers Chaz Mostert and Mark Winterbottom finished second and third in the first session of the day before stepping back to let their co-drivers take over for the remainder of the day.
Saturday will feature a 40 minute practice session before a 20 minute qualifying, and two qualifying races later in the day.
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 3rd – 1m09.78s
“It was good today. It was a strange day because we're normally in the car but now we're just going off feedback from the co-drivers. Steve (Owen) did a really good job. It was good to see him happy in the car because they do as much work this weekend as what we do so it was good to see him jump out of the car comfortable. If he's happy I'm happy. It was a really good day and good for Jase as well, the engineer, to work with Steve. Sometimes the main guys can over-influence the co-drivers sometimes so it's actually good to stand back and watch the other guys work and get to hopefully reap the rewards tomorrow when we hop back in. I'm really happy with where we ended up today."

"I think we're improving the car every time we go out. We both had similar issues with the car this morning so they were things we worked through this afternoon. Obviously the car has some fundamental speed. It was never 100% perfect but for now it's pretty good and to get the fastest lap time in the final session was great too."
Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 2nd – 1m09.61s
“I had a bit of a back seat driver role today. Cam's doing a fantastic job. He was up the pointy end in both sessions and he couldn't have done a better job. The good thing is that he is working really hard to get this car to be like we want it to be. It's good that we've got another driver putting heaps of feedback in. We'll tune it up overnight and keep tuning it up and make sure we're both happy. I'm looking forward to tomorrow now and the final practice session. Hopefully we can stay up in that top five because that's the aim for this weekend."

"We rolled out pretty well this morning. Chaz was quick, then I got p1 this morning and that made my job easier because the car was pretty good. The test day a few weeks ago was good. I'm pretty comfortable in the car now and I'm looking forward to the rest of the weekend. My job now is to make sure I keep the car straight and hopefully just bring it home for Chaz in an OK position."
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“The atmosphere around the track today has been great. To have two of the pairs finish in the top three and then Dave and Dean not far behind was fantastic as well. We just ran through our programs today and made sure the co-drivers were happy in the car so I think tomorrow we'll see a lot more action and hopefully we can keep up our front-running form."
